Lake Union Civic Orchestra
First Free Methodist Church Seattle, Washington, United States

Christophe Chagnard, conductor; Macenna Hansen, guest conductor; Joel Fan, piano

LUCO established its two-year Assistant Conductor program to provide aspiring maestros with an opportunity to conduct rehearsals as well as concerts. This season, we are delighted to invite Macenna Hansen to our podium. Macenna has chosen Saint-Saens’ whimsical Danse Macabre for her grand debut. 2018 brings the 100th anniversary of the birth of the American icon Leonard Bernstein. In homage, we perform a suite from West Side Story, his famous rendering of Romeo and Juliet. Bernstein had a formidable sense of rhythmic drive and the dances from his famous musical are absolutely irresistible! Joel Fan is one of LUCO’s favorite collaborators whose 2015 performance of Rachmaninov’s 3rd Piano Concerto remains one of our fondest memories. As the season’s grand finale, we chose Brahms’ First Piano Concerto, a fitting epic conclusion to this season’s grand musical adventure!
