Symphonic Dances from West Side Story
Christian Vázquez, conductor; Christianne Stotijn, mezzo-soprano
KORK takes the opera with a concert that will make the walls of the Great Hall vibrate. The closure marks the start of what should be the great Bernstein year (100 years!). His most famous work is West Side Story, the gripping and hefty Romeo and Julie-inspired story taking place in New York’s back streets, with jazz, Latin American rhythms and symphonic music in an explosive blend. And this must be said: If there is a Norwegian orchestra that really can make this music pulsate and swing, then it’s KORK. They get good help from Christian Vásquez, Venezuela, and chief executive at the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra.
