Leonard Bernstein was a musical octopus. He was both an outstanding pianist, one of the most prominent conductors of the 20th century, a top performer of music – and a serious composer with symphonies, fairs, operas, ballets, musicals, film music, choirs, chamber music, piano pieces and songs on conscience. Not least, his eminently well-stocked music to the West Side Story has made him world famous.
