Chichester Psalms
Elli Jaffe, conductor
In 2018 the whole musical world will mark the 100th birth anniversary of ‘a universal genius’ – as the legendary pianist Arthur Rubinstein called the conductor, composer and pianist Leonard Bernstein. And a great teacher as well; one of his famous pupils is the FOK’s regular collaborator, conductor, composer and an excellent Jewish cantor Elli Jaffe. There can be no better choice for this event than Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, as it is a sacred piece in Hebrew. And its most obvious European counterpart is Mendelssohn’s Symphony Lobgesang (Hymn of Praise), also based on psalms and likewise performed by the excellent Prague Philharmonic Choir.
