Leonard Bernstein was one of the most versatile musicians of the 20th century: conductor, pianist, inspiring TV presenter… and a composer whose creations ranged from symphonies for the concert hall to one of the greatest musicals of all time, West Side Story. In 2018, the centenary of his birth, we’re presenting a celebration of his music for stage and screen. “New York, New York” from On the Town sets the scene and then it’s an exhilarating program with guest soloists Australian soprano Lorina Gore and two stars of Broadway, Kim Criswell and Julian Ovenden. All the favourites, including “Glitter and be Gay” (Candide), “Maria” (West Side Story), as well as some beautiful and surprising rarities.
