Lara Downes
Southwestern University Georgetown, Texas, United States

An iconoclastic pianist whose artistry has been called “luscious, moody and dreamy” by the New York Times and “ravishing” by Fanfare Magazine, Lara Downes takes inspiration where she finds it, going beyond labels like “classical” or “eclectic” to make music that is timeless and timely, starts conversations, and resonates with the world we live in. Downes’ performances have taken her across the country to some of the most prestigious venues, including New York City’s Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and Le Poisson Rouge to Yoshi’s in San Francisco. She strives to connect music to a wide range of human experiences and is inspired by musicians, such as Leonard Bernstein and Nina Simone, to express the diversity of American history and American dreams. The HuffingtonPost has called her unique style “addicting – Downes plays with an open, honest heart.” She is a Steinway Artist.
