Celebrate the centenary of the great American conductor, composer, and pianist Leonard Bernstein with solo piano works by, for, and about Bernstein played by 2015 Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient, Michael Brown “one of the leading figures in the current renaissance of performer-composers” (The New York Times).  In addition to works by Bernstein, this program features music by his contemporaries Lucas Foss, Aaron Copland and George Perle.  It includes Aaron Copland’s Sonata and his El Salon Mexico as arranged for solo piano by Bernstein, three commemorative compositions: George Perle’s Celebratory Invention composed for Bernstein’s 70th birthday, Bernstein’s own Anniversaires, celebrating the birthdays of his friends, and the premiere of Michael Brown’s 100 Chords for Bernstein.
