Bernstein became a household name through his music education programs on national television. Following the success of the Omnibus series, the New York Philharmonic Young People’s Concerts began in 1958 (and continued through 1972). This period concludes the birth of Bernstein’s third child (and third symphony), numerous European travels, and concludes with his final concert as music director of the NY Philharmonic, and the death of his father.
